This year is going to be an exciting year in science!  This page will be one of the best tools for you (students and parents) to stay in the loop with what we are accomplishing in class daily. 
 
My webpage will be updated frequently detailing the topic that we covered, activities that students participated in, along with any assignments that we completed in class that day.  Click on the topic tab to the right to access PowerPoints, activities, and/or assignments.

Monday, August 14th
 
Topic: Science Composition Book Organization and Lab Safety Rules
Activities:
1. Science Composition Book Organization (See me for more details and I will help you set up your composition book.)
2. Lab Safety Rules (Chapter 3 in your composition notebook): Students watched a video and copied down the lab safety rules outlined within the video. The video can be found by clicking on the "Lab Safety Rules" tab on the right side of the this webpage.
 
Tuesday, August 15th
 
Topic: Lab Safety Rules (Chapter 3 in your composition notebook)
Activities:
1. Lab Safety Rules: Students watched a video and copied down the lab safety rules outlined within the video. Then students worked in groups and acted out a rule.The video can be found by clicking on the "Lab Safety Rules" tab on the right side of the webpage.
2. Lab Safety Contract: Students read and signed their lab safety contract. *This contract can be located by clicking on the tab "Lab Safety".

Meter Stick Scavenger Hunt: Students measured various items around the classroom using a meter stick. *This activity can be located by clicking on the tab "Meter Stick" located on the right side of this webpage.* Also, note that some class periods either didn't finish this activity or didn't get to this activity at all today in class.

1. What's in the Bag?: Students worked in groups to try to determine what's in the bag. If you were absent on this day, there is not an alternative assignment to complete for this activity.  Therefore, you will not be penalized for not completing this activity.

Activity:
1.  Build an Earthquake Resistant Building: Students are using the EDP to build an earthquake resistant building. *Students that were not here for one or more of the days need to complete the following alternative assignment: In your textbook, read pages 22-28. (1) Write all of the yellow highlighted vocabulary words and their definition. (2) Page 29: Write questions 1 - 6 and write the correct answer.* Make sure you write "Build an Earthquake Resistant Tower Alternative Assignment" on the top of your paper.

1.  Conductors and Insulators Categorization: Students categorized phrases, words, or pictures as either a conductor or insulator.

1.  Static electricity and Current Compare and Contrast: Students used two sheets of paper in their composition book to draw a Venn diagram.  Students then used the Static vs. Current Venn Diagram items to compare and contrast these two types of electricity.

1.  Circuit Builder: Students had the opportunity to build different circuits by completing a virtual lab. Please see me to get a copy of this activity.

Activity:
