What to expect in ELAB ...
Writing. More writing. And lots more writing after that. When this school year is over, you will have practiced so many ways of manipulating the written word that there's no way you won't be comfortable with the blank page. You will tackle expository essays, argumentative essays, and forms of narrative writing. Your writing will be shaped by six distinct purposes (more on that later), and you will have a tool box so full of writing techniques and skills that you'll be able to take on any state assessment that can be thrown at you. More than that, though, you'll be able to have something to say, and to say what you think well.
Last but not least, be ready to read. All great writers have be great readers. With that in mind, your ELAB experience will also involve a great deal of time with novels, informational texts, websites, newspaper articles, and even social media. Any time you don't carry a book around with you, it's time for a visit to the library.
As the year unfolds, this website will be your (and your parent's) anchor for all the many happenings of ELAB. Come back to it often and know it well!
Let's have a wonderful year!
