The 7th & 8th Grade Band Spring Concerts are scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
Please read important reminders below.
- On Tuesday, April 23 - Band students will dismiss at normal school dismissal (band students do not stay after school; there is no after-school band practice on the day of the concert.)
- On Tuesday, April 23 -
7th Grade Band students need to arrive (wearing concert attire) between 4:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
8th Grade Band students need to arrive (wearing concert attire) between 5:30 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
Jazz Caves have three rehearsals this week (noted below and on the April Band Calendar page) and perform at JazzFest on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Jazz Cavies parents - please see the parent copy of the detailed itinerary (included with the Performance Trip form) for additional details and reminders.

Concert Bb Scale Test (Playing Test) will continue in class Monday and Tuesday. The Concert Eb Scale written assignment will be distributed to students on Monday and is due Wednesday.

Parents will need to drop off their Pep Band students at the band room at a specific time on Tuesday (9/5) (see detailed announcement). Pep Band students need to plan to eat dinner before they arrive on Tuesday (9/5) (dinner will not be provided).
Band Butter Braid Fundraiser starts Wednesday, 9/6/23. Students will bring home additional info. to parents on Wednesday.

The Band Butter Braid Fundraiser ends this week!
The Butter Braid fundraiser is our main band fundraiser for the year; it is also our only band fundraiser that we will have during the first semester this year. Thank you to all who have already participated in this important fundraiser! There is still time to participate if you have not already done so. Please submit all in-person (paper) order forms (with order payments) by Monday, 9/18/23. The final deadline is Wednesday, 9/20/23, via the online store.

Band Fundraiser Butter Braid Pick-Up is this Thursday, 10/12/23! If your band student had Butter Braid orders, you will receive an email with additional information by Monday afternoon, 10/9/23. Please email the band directors if you did not receive the email and you have Butter Braid orders.

As a reminder, all 8th Grade Band students should have acquired their Concert Attire materials by the beginning of the 2nd Nine Weeks of school (Monday, 10/9/23).
During class this week, students will have a specified measures for each of the three Winter Concert pieces that they should practice individually and be able to individually perform in class by the end of the week. Students will receive instruction on these measures during band class as well. Students will also learn more about additional band opportunities this week (Basketball Pep Band, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and Mid-State Honor Band auditions).
During class this week, students will have a specified measures for each of the three Winter Concert pieces that they should practice individually and be able to individually perform in class by the end of the week. Students will receive instruction on these measures during band class as well. Grade-Level Updates
8th Grade Band & 7th Grade Band:
As a reminder, all 7th & 8th Grade Band students should have acquired their Concert Attire materials by the beginning of the 2nd Nine Weeks of school (last Monday, 10/9/23). Each week during the month of October, students will have a specified measures for each of the three Winter Concert pieces that they should practice individually and be able to individually perform in class by the end of the week. Click here to access the required (minimum) measures for each week that students should practice (see tab titled" 7th/8th Grade: Concert Music Assignments"). Students will receive instruction on these measures during band class as well; students will have a quiz each week on measures selected from these assignments.

This week, our Spring 2024 Joyful Traditions Cake Rolls Band Fundraiser started last Wednesday, 1/24/24. Students received the in-person order forms on Wednesday, and parents should have received the online store link last week. The first two turn-in dates are this week: 1/30/24 and 1/31/24. Please note: the final in-person turn in date is now next Monday, February 5. Thank you for considering participating in the band fundraiser!

March 2024 Concert: The 6th Grade Spring Concert is Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 6pm in the Siegel Middle School auditorium.

1) Please make sure that your student has the correct concert attire (attached on the field trip form; also located here on the band website). Students may bring a change of clothes to change into for the afternoon (after the performance is complete).
2) Please make note of the upcoming after-school rehearsals.
3) 7th Grade Band Parents: please make sure your student arrives at school between 7:15am-7:30 a.m. on Monday, March 4, so we may begin loading equipment and buses ASAP.
4) Parents are welcome to come to hear their student's CPA performance at MTSU (Wright Music Building). (Specific ensemble performance time is listed on the parent copy of the field trip form.)

8th Grade Band: CPA Performance - Friday, March 8, 2024
We are looking forward to a great day!
UPDATED: The 8th Grade Band after-school rehearsal on Thursday, 3/7/24, will end at 4:30pm (students need to be picked up at 4:30pm).
Please read important 8th Grade Band reminders below for FRIDAY, March 8:
1) Please make sure that your 8th grade band student arrives to Siegel Middle School wearing the correct Concert Attire (attached on the field trip form; also located here on the band website; school dress code still applies).
2) 8th Grade Band students are encouraged to bring a clear water bottle (labeled with the student's name). (Note: All school policies still apply.) If a student is planning to bring a lunch instead of eating the band-provided pizza lunch, please make sure the lunchbox is also labeled with the student's name.
3) 8th Grade Band Parents: Students will arrive at school during regular morning arrival times (7:15am-7:45am). (Band students will enter the building at regular morning school entrance locations). Upon entering the building, band students need to report to the band room (they will not go to homeroom).
4) Parents are welcome to hear their student's CPA performance at the MTSU School of Music! (Hinton Music Hall, located in the Wright Music Building).

7th Grade Band received an overall Excellent (II) rating for their Prepared Pieces, and a Superior (I) rating in the Sight-Reading Room!
8th Grade Band received an overall Superior (I) rating for their Prepared Pieces, and a Superior (I) rating in the Sight-Reading Room!
Thank you to all of the band parents that volunteered to help at these events and to all of the band parents that attended the performances! They will also perform their pieces (along with new music) at the upcoming Spring Concert.
We are looking forward to the 6th Grade Band Concert next Tuesday, March 19! Additional information will be posted and communicated to parents/students ASAP.

- Please plan to enter (and park) at the Siegel M.S. Cafeteria Parking Lot entrance starting 5:30 p.m.
- The Cafeteria Entrance door will open at 5:30pm for 6th Grade Band Students and Parents.
- Band students need to arrive between 5:30pm-5:45pm
- Band students should arrive already wearing their 6th Grade Band Concert Attire (this is the Siegel Middle School Band T-Shirt & Jeans. All band students received a Siegel Middle School Band T-Shirt earlier this semester.).

6th Grade Band students will be expanding their note range and learning new rhythms this week. They will have a performance test on Friday (4/5/24) of the first notes of their Chromatic Scale. Also, 6th grade band students will have the opportunity throughout the next three weeks to audition for the 2024-2025 Siegel Middle School Pep Band. Additional information will be communicated to the students during band class.

6th Grade Band students are completing their Chromatic Scale (first 5 notes) playing test. They will continue expanding their note range and learning new rhythms this week. They will learn the next notes (first 9 notes) of their Chromatic Scale for the next playing test (begins Friday, April 12). Also, 6th grade band students will have the opportunity throughout the next three weeks to audition for the 2024-2025 Siegel Middle School Pep Band.
