Welcome to 8A ELAB!
This year we will be learning about the six different types of writing:
1. Express and Reflect
2. Inform and Explain
3. Evaluate and Judge
4. Take a Stand and Propose a Solution
5. Analyze and Interpret
6. Inquire and Explore
Through these six types of writing, your student will learn the multifaceted benefit of becoming a good writer!
Students will also work on a Multi-Genre Research Project that we will work on throughout the year, but that will ultimately culminate in Q4. Please work with your student(s) to help him/her stay focused and keep those due dates in mind. This will help ease some of the end-of-the-year stress on your student!
In ELAB, students will be working with an Article of the Week and other non-fiction works to grow as readers of this genre. ELAB/ELA teachers work together to try and coordinate our lessons, so, for example, when a student is reading a novel about the 60's in ELA, we will try and coordinate our non-fiction readings to help provide some additional information for those students. Article of the Week responses are due EVERY FRIDAY unless otherwise noted.
We have a very full year in ELAB and I am so excited to grow with your student and help them become the writers that I know that they can be!
